Frequently asked questions (FAQs)
When does my roaming pack start?
Your pack activates as soon as it’s added, unless you choose to schedule it for your travel date. It lasts for 7 days and expires at midnight Sydney time on the final day.

Can I make calls or send SMS while overseas?
Data-only packs don’t include calls or SMS over the mobile network. If you need both, the Global Voice & Data Pack has you covered. You can also use Wi-Fi Calling on compatible devices when connected to Wi-Fi.

What happens if I run out of data?
You can add a new pack to keep going. You can also have different packs active at the same time, up to 2 within any 24-hour period. Just keep in mind that adding the same pack again will replace your existing one and any unused data will be lost — you’ll still be charged for the new pack.

Do I need a new SIM card?
No. Your roaming pack works with your existing MATE SIM or eSIM. No swaps, no extra hardware needed.
Which countries are included?
It depends on the pack. Our Pacific, Asia and North America packs cover their respective regions. The Global Pack covers 69 destinations worldwide, while the Global Voice & Data Pack covers 34 destinations. Check the full destination list to find the right pack for your trip.
How do I check my data balance?
You’ll automatically receive usage alerts at 50%, 85% and 100% of your data via SMS, email and app push notification. You can also check your remaining balance any time in the myMATE app. If you have more than one pack active, each will show separately.
Can I schedule my pack in advance?
Yes. When adding a pack in the myMATE app, you can choose to activate it immediately or set a future start date. We recommend scheduling it for the day you arrive so you’re ready to go as soon as you land.

What speeds can I expect overseas?
Roaming speeds depend on the local network in your destination country. We can’t guarantee specific speeds while roaming, but we’ll always connect you to the best available network. Coverage and performance may vary by region.
