Why nbn?

The nbn offers faster, reliable broadband to Australian homes and businesses and delivers better voice and data services. The nbn infrastructure is managed and maintained by NBN Co.

In Western Australia, many homes are already connected to the nbn through a fixed wireless nbn connection or a fixed line nbn connection. For many households, the nbn offers a fast and reliable way to connect to the internet—so you can stream movies and music, post on socials, enjoy video chats with friends, family and more.

The main difference in MATE’s nbn plans is that they all belong to different nbn speed tiers. While all our plans come with unlimited data, they do have capped download and upload speeds. The higher the speed tier, the quicker you’ll be able to download large files and stream 4K content with little to no buffering. You’ll also be able to connect multiple devices at once with no service interruption. Your lifestyle and internet needs are what will determine the speed tier for you.

Do I need my own modem for a MATE nbn plan?

Yes, you will need your own modem to connect to the internet with your MATE nbn plan.

If you don’t have a modem, we can provide our modem when you sign up for a one-time fee.  If you already have a modem, you can use it with our plans at no additional charge.

Is a technician required to set up my MATE home internet?

If an nbn service hasn’t previously been connected to your property, then a technician will need to install the nbn equipment. The technician will require access to the property in order to install the nbn modem and nbn connection box. You’ll need to be home when they arrive.

If your home has already been connected to the nbn, a technician is not needed to set up your MATE home internet connection. All we need to do is simply transfer the service. Usually, this will only take a few hours. However in some cases, it may take up to 3 business days.

What are the different nbn connection types?

There are a few different nbn connection types that alow you to connect to the internet.

Fixed wireless nbn is often used in rural areas where fixed line technologies are not available.

Common fixed line nbn technologies include Fibre to the Premises (FTTP), Fibre to the Node (FTTN) and Fibre to the Building (FTTB).

Hybrid Fibre Coaxial or HFC, is also known as cable internet. This type of connection uses fibre optic cable most of the way to your house, after which coaxial cable finishes the journey.
