Do I need my own modem for a MATE nbn plan?

Yes, you need your own modem to connect to the internet with your MATE nbn plan. If you already have a compatible modem, you can use it with our plans at no extra cost.

If you don’t have a modem, we can provide our modem when you sign up for a one-time fee.

Is a technician required to set up my MATE home internet?

If an nbn service hasn’t previously been connected to your property, then a technician will need to come and install the nbn equipment. The technician will need access to the property in order to install the nbn modem and nbn connection box, so you will need to be home.

If your home has already been connected to the nbn, a technician is not required to set up your MATE home internet connection. All we need to do is simply transfer the service. Usually, this will only take a few hours. However in some cases, it may take up to 3 business days.

What are the different nbn connection types?

There are a few different nbn connection types that alow you to get connected to the internet.

Fixed wireless nbn is often used in rural areas where fixed line technologies are not available.

Common fixed line nbn technologies include Fibre to the Premises (FTTP), Fibre to the Node (FTTN) and Fibre to the Building (FTTB). Hybrid Fibre Coaxial or HFC, is also known as cable internet. This type of connection uses fibre optic cable most of the way to your house, after which coaxial cable finishes the journey.
