Data-only roaming packs (Pacific, Asia, North America and Global) don’t include standard voice calls, SMS or voicemail access over the mobile network. If you need all of these included, the Global Voice & Data Pack ($32 for 7 days) has you covered with 5GB data, 30 minutes of calls and 30 SMS.
What about Wi-Fi Calling?
If you’re on a data-only pack and connected to Wi-Fi with Wi-Fi Calling enabled on a compatible device, you may be able to make and receive calls. Here’s how charges work:
- Calls to Australian numbers are charged as standard domestic calls under your plan.
- Calls to non-Australian numbers are charged as international direct dial (IDD) calls.
Voicemail can’t be accessed on data-only packs, even via Wi-Fi Calling. To access voicemail while overseas, you’ll need the Global Voice & Data Pack.
đź’ˇ Tip: Emergency calls (112) can still be made in most roaming destinations regardless of which pack you have, as long as you have mobile coverage. You can also use third-party apps like WhatsApp, Facebook Messenger or WeChat to message and call over data or Wi-Fi.
