Set up your home for next-gen internet
Getting faster speeds is just the start – how your home is set up matters too.
To get the most out of your Fibre connection and speed boost, make sure your modem, Wi-Fi, and devices are all working together:
📶 Use a Wi-Fi 6 router or mesh system for better coverage and speed
📍 Place your router in a central, open spot – not hidden in a cupboard
💻 Check your devices – older gear might not keep up with faster speeds
🔌 Use Ethernet (Cat6 or better) for important devices like gaming consoles or work setups

Frequently asked questions
When will the speed upgrades happen?
Speed upgrades will start rolling out from mid-September 2025.
If you are already on an eligible MATE plan and have a compatible fibre or HFC connection, your upgrade will happen automatically. There is no need to contact us or make any changes to your plan.
Will my price go up with these speed increases?
If you are already on an eligible MATE plan, your monthly price will stay the same at the time of the upgrade.
We will continue to review our plans to ensure they remain great value for Aussie households.
Do I need to upgrade my modem or equipment?
In most cases, no. However, to make the most of higher speeds like 500Mbps or more, your home setup does need to be up to scratch.
We recommend using a Wi-Fi 6 modem or mesh system and ensuring your devices support higher throughput. A direct Ethernet connection is also ideal for things like gaming or video calls.
How do I know if I'm on FTTP or HFC?
You can check your connection type in the myMATE app or by logging into the self-care portal.
If you are still unsure, reach out to our support team and we will help you confirm your connection type.
What if I'm on other technologies?
If you are on Fibre to the Node (FTTN) or Fibre to the Curb (FTTC), you will not get the automatic speed upgrade.
But the good news is, you may be eligible to upgrade to Fibre to the Premises (FTTP) with no installation cost.
Once you upgrade, you will unlock the new higher-speed tiers. Check your eligibility here.
