Can I use Wi-Fi instead of my roaming pack?

Absolutely. Connecting to Wi-Fi overseas is completely free and won’t use your roaming pack data at all. In fact, it’s one of the best ways to stretch your pack further while you’re travelling.

  • Use Wi-Fi at your hotel, café or airport to browse, stream and message without dipping into your roaming data.
  • If you have Wi-Fi Calling enabled on a compatible device, you may be able to make and receive calls over Wi-Fi. Calls to Australian numbers are charged as standard domestic calls under your plan. Calls to non-Australian numbers are charged as international direct dial (IDD) calls.

To get the most out of Wi-Fi while overseas, turn off Data Roaming in your phone settings when you don’t need it and switch it back on only when necessary. This helps preserve your roaming data for when you really need it.

💡 Tip: Apps running in the background can quietly use up your roaming data without you noticing. Turn off Data Roaming when you’re connected to Wi-Fi and only switch it on when you need it. Your pack will still be there waiting when you do.
