Why is there an “nbn New Development Fee” charge?

If your home is part of a new development, you might see a $300 charge on your account. This is called the nbn New Development Fee.

This once-off fee is not for installation — it’s a developer contributions charge set by the Australian Government to help cover the cost of extending the nbn network to new areas.

The fee applies to the first-time connection at a new premises and is charged by nbn, not MATE. If it applies to your address, it will be added to your first invoice with us.

More info can be found on the nbn website here.

💡 Tip: If the New Development Fee applies to your address, you’ll see it clearly listed on your first bill — no hidden surprises!
