Not all VDSL modems are guaranteed to work with nbn Fibre to the Node (FTTN) or Fibre to the Building (FTTB) — especially after changes introduced in 2022.
From March 2022, nbn introduced two new technologies on FTTN and FTTB lines:
- Save Our Showtime (SOS)
- Robust Overhead Channel (ROC)
These improve connection stability by helping prevent dropouts due to line noise.
If your VDSL modem doesn’t support these functions, it may stop working on FTTN/B services. Many modems using Intel or Lantiq chipsets are affected, including:
- Audiocodes MP-264
- AVM FRITZ!Box 7590
- DrayTek Vigor130, 2760 series, 2860 series
- NETGEAR DM200, D7000v2, D7800, D8500
- TP-Link Archer VR200v V2, TD-W9980
These modems may need a firmware update from the manufacturer to stay compatible. We recommend checking directly with the manufacturer or visiting their support site to see if an update is available.
