What are the new nbn speed upgrades and how do they affect me?

In September 2025, nbn® launched new high-speed tiers. If you’re a MATE customer on an eligible plan and technology type, you are getting faster speeds without lifting a finger.

🚀 What changed?

nbn supercharged its high-speed tiers for eligible customers on FTTP and HFC. Here’s what the upgrades looked like:

  • Home Fast (100/20) → Upgraded to 500/50
  • Home Superfast (250/25) → Upgraded to 750/50
  • Home Ultrafast (1000/50) → Upload speeds upgraded to 100 Mbps
  • NEW: Home Hyperfast (2000 Mbps) → Coming to select FTTP & HFC customers

These upgraded plans are perfect for households with multiple users, smart home devices, 4K/8K streaming, heavy downloads and online gaming.

✅ Was I automatically upgraded?

Yes! If you were a MATE customer on an eligible FTTP or HFC plan, you were automatically upgraded to the new speeds from 15 September 2025.

  • No Worries 100/20 → Upgraded to No Worries 500/50
  • Fair Dinkum 250/25 → Upgraded to Fair Dinkum 750/50
  • Flamin’ Fast 1000/50 → Upgraded to Flamin’ Fast 1000/100

🏠 I’m on a different connection type – can I get faster speeds?

If you’re currently on a different nbn technology type (like Fibre to the Node or Fibre to the Curb), you might be eligible for a fibre upgrade at no additional cost through the nbn Fibre Connect program.

To check if your address qualifies, visit our Fibre Upgrade info page and fill out the form. We’ll get in touch with next steps if you’re eligible.

⚠️ Will I always get the maximum speed?

Not necessarily. The speeds you experience, especially on higher-speed plans, can vary due to several factors, including:

  • Your home’s internal wiring
  • Distance from your modem/router
  • Wi-Fi interference and setup
  • Number of devices using the network

Check out our guide on how to optimise your home setup for fast nbn plans and get the best out of your connection.

📶 Does my modem/router support these faster speeds?

Not all hardware can handle ultra-fast speeds. If you’re on (or moving to) a high-speed nbn plan, it’s important to make sure your modem or router is up to the task.

See our FAQ on recommended routers for fast nbn plans for help choosing the right gear.

📅 When did this happen?

The new speed tiers started rolling out from 15 September 2025. We contacted all eligible customers directly.
