If you’re renting, you may need permission before installing nbn.
Some nbn services need a technician to install equipment in your home, which can include drilling, ducting, or wiring. So, it’s a good idea to check with your landlord or property manager before any work starts.
Here’s what to keep in mind:
- Your landlord or agent should approve any physical work on the property.
- They can choose where the nbn equipment is installed and may need to sign off on any changes.
- If you’re unsure of your rights, contact your local tenant support service — rules can vary by state.
To help your installation go smoothly:
- The job might need access inside walls or ceilings, or outdoor work like mounting a dish or utility box.
- Let others in the home know about the appointment so the technician can access what they need.
- If you need extra internal cabling, you’ll need a registered cabler.
- Keep pets in a secure area — curious paws and tails can be a trip hazard!
Let the nbn technician know if:
- There are any electrical issues — they might need to briefly cut the power during install.
- You know of any asbestos on the property.
- The property has had recent renovations or structural work.
- Pest control has recently been done.
- There are any endangered plants or animals on the premises.
