How do I configure my BYO modem/router?

Once your MATE internet service is active, you’ll need to configure your BYO modem/router with your new MATE nbn service details. We recommend following the steps in our setup guide, which we emailed to you after signup.

MATE Connect (IPoE) configuration

When you’ve received your activation email, your service should work automatically if you purchased our modem or are coming from a provider that also uses IPoE.

If you’re not online, try the steps below:

Step 1: Hard reset your modem/router

  • While your modem is powered ON, locate the small ‘RESET’ button on your device. Insert a pin into the reset hole for 10 seconds.
  • You should see the lights flicker or toggle. Let the reset run for up to 5 minutes.
  • After the reset, your modem should automatically connect to the internet.

If this doesn’t work, move to Step 2.

Step 2: Check your modem is set to Dynamic IP/IPoE

  • You’ll need to log in to your modem/router’s firmware settings to adjust this.
  • If you need help accessing these settings, click here for setup guides.

If you still can’t connect, follow the PPPoE configuration steps below.

PPPoE configuration

If you don’t know your PPPoE username or password, check your emails from us. You’ll find these details in the emails titled “You’re nearly there mate!” and “We’re officially mates!”

Your MATE username will usually be in one of the following formats:

💡 Tip: Some modems support both IPoE and PPPoE. If your modem has both options, start with IPoE (Dynamic IP) first. It’s the most common setup for MATE services.
