How do I get a VoIP phone service as part of my nbn internet plan?\u00a0<\/span><\/h2>\n

Rest assured, getting a VoIP service is far from difficult. It\u2019s just a matter of finding a phone and internet provider who bundles VoIP with an nbn internet plan. Types of VoIP<\/span><\/h3>\n

There are a couple of VoIP service types that may be available to you depending on what type of nbn technology you have at your property. The most common type, open to all fixed-line nbn technologies (FTTC, FTTP, FTTN, FTTB and HFC), is UNI-D VoIP.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

However, UNI-V (aka Fibre Phone), is only available to FTTP. UNI-V is generally considered to be a superior VoIP connection type because it allocates dedicated bandwidth for voice traffic and internet traffic, separately. Unlike UNI-D where phone calls might compete with internet traffic for a share of the available bandwidth.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Is it mandatory that I get a VoIP service?<\/span><\/h2>\n

While it\u2019s not a requirement that you upgrade to a VoIP connection, it will mean that you will be without a home phone line. However, a <\/span>4G or 5G mobile phone plan<\/span><\/a> is a good alternative if you\u2019re still wanting to make local, national and international calls.<\/span><\/p>\n

How much does a VoIP phone service cost?<\/span><\/h2>\n

Depending on which internet service provider you sign up with, you should be able to choose between pay-as-you-go VoIP or an unlimited VoIP calls package. While the PAYG option can cost anywhere between 15c-45c a call\/per minute depending on whether it\u2019s a local, national, mobile or international call, an unlimited call pack will often only cost you around $9 per month extra.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Can I use a regular landline phone handset for my VoIP service?<\/span><\/h2>\n

Yes! It is possible to still use an old-school landline handset for VoIP calls, however, you will need to use an analogue telephone adapter (ATA).
