This guide covers the configuration of the Huawei HG659 for nbn connection types Fibre to the Node (FTTN)<\/a> and Fibre to the Building (FTTB)<\/a>,\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n To set up the Huawei HG659 for nbn Fibre to the Premises (FTTP)<\/a>, Hybrid Fibre Coaxial (HFC)<\/a>, Fibre to the Curb (FTTC)<\/a> or Fixed Wireless<\/a>, refer to our FTTP\/HFC\/FTTC\/Fixed Wireless setup guide for the Huawei HG659<\/a>.<\/strong><\/p>\n Ensure your modem\/router is plugged in to the wall and powered ON. Once your device has powered on, perform a HARD RESET to clear any previous ISP settings. To perform a hard reset:<\/p>\n Once your device has finished performing the reset sequence, you will now need to plug an RJ-11 telephone cable from the DSL port on the back of your modem\/router to the telephone wall socket located in your home (as per your activation instructions).<\/p>\n Your device should connect to the internet within a couple of minutes, however allow up to 15 MINUTES for this.<\/p>\n If your device has connected to the internet, great! You do not need to proceed any further.<\/p>\n If you are still offline<\/strong>, proceed to next steps below for an alternate option to try and get online.<\/p>\n Ensure that Wi-Fi is enabled on the device you are using to access your modem (e.g. computer\/laptop\/smartphone\/tablet). If you are using a smartphone or tablet, you should turn off your mobile data connectivity or any hotspot connection during this process.<\/p>\n Connect to the Wi-Fi\/Wireless network of the Huawei HG659 modem on your computer\/laptop\/smartphone\/tablet. To connect to the Wi-Fi network of the Huawei HG659 modem, locate the Wi-Fi network name being broadcast by the modem from your device (e.g. computer\/laptop), select this network, then enter the password for this network when prompted.<\/p>\n If you are unsure of the Wi-Fi password, this will be printed on the sticker on the back of the Huawei HG659, next to the barcodes. It may be labelled as “WLAN Key”.<\/p>\n PLEASE NOTE: YOU DO NOT NEED TO HAVE A WORKING INTERNET CONNECTION TO CONNECT TO THE WI-FI OF THE HUAWEI HG659 MODEM OR ACCESS THE MODEM GATEWAY PAGE.<\/strong><\/p>\n Alternatively, you can plug in an RJ-45 Ethernet cable from your computer or laptop to one of the four (4) yellow LAN ports on the back of the Huawei HG659 modem.<\/p>\n Open your web browser (e.g. Google Chrome\/Internet Explorer\/Mozilla Firefox\/Microsoft Edge), enter 192.168.1.1<\/span><\/strong> into the address bar and press Enter.<\/p>\n If successful, a login box or window should appear asking for a username and password. Enter admin<\/strong><\/span> for the username and admin<\/strong><\/span>\u00a0for the password.<\/p>\n If the above login doesn\u2019t work, the password will be printed on the sticker on the back of the Huawei HG659 modem. Enter this password.<\/p>\n Once you have logged in, you should see several options listed across the top of the page. Click INTERNET<\/strong><\/span>.<\/p>\n You will then see a list of options on the left side of the page. Click ‘INTERNET SETTINGS<\/strong><\/span>‘.<\/p>\n There should be a section on the right-hand side of the page that shows ‘INTERNET_TR069_VDSL_VID_10<\/strong>‘. Click EDIT<\/span><\/strong>.<\/p>\n Now, you should see a list of available options you can edit or update. You will need to update all of the following details listed below:<\/p>\n Connection Type: Dynamic IP (IPoE)<\/strong><\/p>\n You shouldn’t have many other options to select from here, so go ahead and click\u00a0‘SAVE’<\/strong><\/p>\n Your device should now be connected to the internet. Allow up to 2 minutes for this.<\/p>\n If you are still offline, proceed with the PPPoE configuration instructions below to get online.\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n Ensure that Wi-Fi is enabled on the device you are using to access your modem (e.g. computer\/laptop\/smartphone\/tablet). You will need to update all of the following details listed below:<\/p>\n Connection Type: IP routing (PPP)<\/span> Leave all other options as they are and press the ‘SAVE<\/span><\/strong>‘ button.<\/p>\n You now need to plug your Huawei HG659 modem into your telephone wall socket using an RJ-11 telephone cable.<\/p>\n One end of the telephone cable needs to be plugged into the grey DSL<\/span><\/strong> port on the back of the modem and the other end into the telephone wall socket in your home.<\/p>\n You will need to wait for the WAN<\/span><\/strong> light on the front of your Huawei HG659 modem to turn solid \u2013 this may take up to 15 minutes. DO NOT UNPLUG THE MODEM DURING THIS TIME.<\/p>\n If the WAN light on the front does not turn solid after 15 minutes and you have more than one socket in the home, please plug your Huawei HG659 modem into any other available telephone sockets in your home, and turn the power on and off once plugged in.<\/p>\n Leave your Huawei HG659 modem plugged into each telephone wall socket for up to 15 minutes until the Link light on the modem turns solid.<\/p>\n If the WAN light on your Huawei HG659 modem does not turn solid after 15 minutes and you have tried to connect this on all available telephone wall sockets in your home, please contact our support team<\/a> for further troubleshooting.<\/p>\n
