This guide covers the configuration of the Huawei HG659 for nbn connection types Fibre to the Premises (FTTP)<\/a>, Hybrid Fibre Coaxial (HFC)<\/a>, Fibre to the Curb (FTTC)<\/a> and Fixed Wireless<\/a>.<\/strong><\/p>\n To set up the Huawei HG659 for nbn Fibre to the Node (FTTN)<\/a> or Fibre to the Building (FTTB)<\/a>, refer to our FTTN\/B setup guide for the Huawei HG659<\/a>.<\/strong><\/p>\n Ensure your modem\/router is plugged in to the wall and powered ON. Once your device has powered on, perform a HARD RESET to clear any previous ISP settings. To perform a hard reset:<\/p>\n Once your device has finished performing the reset sequence, you will now need to plug an RJ-45 ethernet cable from the WAN port on the back of your modem\/router to the nbn device located in your home (as per your activation instructions).<\/p>\n Your device should connect to the internet within a couple of minutes, however allow up to 5 MINUTES for this.<\/p>\n If your device has connected to the internet, great! You do not need to proceed any further.<\/p>\n If you are still offline<\/strong>, proceed to next steps below for an alternate option to try and get online.<\/p>\n Ensure that Wi-Fi is enabled on the device you are using to access your modem (e.g. computer\/laptop\/smartphone\/tablet). If you are using a smartphone or tablet, you should turn off your mobile data connectivity or any hotspot connection during this process.<\/p>\n Connect to the Wi-Fi\/Wireless network of the Huawei HG659 modem on your computer\/laptop\/smartphone\/tablet. To connect to the Wi-Fi network of the Huawei HG659 modem, locate the Wi-Fi network name being broadcast by the modem from your device (e.g. computer\/laptop), select this network, then enter the password for this network when prompted.<\/p>\n If you are unsure of the Wi-Fi password, this will be printed on the sticker on the back of the Huawei HG659, next to the barcodes. It may be labelled as “WLAN Key”.<\/p>\n PLEASE NOTE: YOU DO NOT NEED TO HAVE A WORKING INTERNET CONNECTION TO CONNECT TO THE WI-FI OF THE HUAWEI HG659 MODEM OR ACCESS THE MODEM GATEWAY PAGE.<\/strong><\/p>\n Alternatively, you can plug in an RJ-45 Ethernet cable from your computer or laptop to one of the four (4) yellow LAN ports on the back of the Huawei HG659 modem.<\/p>\n Open your web browser (e.g. Google Chrome\/Internet Explorer\/Mozilla Firefox\/Microsoft Edge), enter 192.168.1.1<\/span><\/strong> into the address bar and press Enter.<\/p>\n If successful, a login box or window should appear asking for a username and password. Enter admin<\/strong><\/span> for the username and admin<\/strong><\/span>\u00a0for the password.<\/p>\n If the above login doesn\u2019t work, the password will be printed on the sticker on the back of the Huawei HG659 modem. Enter this password.<\/p>\n Once you have logged in, you should see several options listed across the top of the page. Click INTERNET<\/strong><\/span>.<\/p>\n You will then see a list of options on the left side of the page. Click ‘INTERNET SETTINGS<\/strong><\/span>‘.<\/p>\n There should be a section on the right-hand side of the page that shows ‘INTERNET_TR069_VDSL_VID_10<\/strong>‘. Click EDIT<\/span><\/strong>.<\/p>\n Now, you should see a list of available options you can edit or update. You will need to update all of the following details listed below:<\/p>\n Connection Type: Dynamic IP (IPoE) You shouldn’t have many other options to select from here, so go ahead and click\u00a0‘SAVE’<\/strong><\/p>\n Your device should now be connected to the internet. Allow up to 2 minutes for this.<\/p>\n If you are still offline, proceed with the PPPoE configuration instructions below to get online.\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n Ensure that Wi-Fi is enabled on the device you are using to access your modem (e.g. computer\/laptop\/smartphone\/tablet). You will need to update all of the following details listed below:<\/p>\n Connection Type: IP routing (PPP)<\/span> Leave all other options as they are and press the ‘SAVE<\/span><\/strong>‘ button.<\/p>\n You now need to plug your Huawei HG659 modem into your nbn\u2122 device<\/a> using an RJ-45 Ethernet cable.<\/p>\n One end of the Ethernet cable needs to be plugged into the blue port labelled WAN<\/span> on the back of the modem and the other end into the active port on your nbn\u2122 device – this will either be a numbered UNI-D<\/span> port (such as UNI-D 1, UNI-D 2 etc.) or a GATEWAY<\/span> port.<\/p>\n If you are unsure which port to plug into on your nbn\u2122 device, please refer to your MATE activation email and SMS which specifies the correct port.<\/p>\n If you have configured and plugged in your router correctly, the Internet light on the front of your modem should illuminate. This may take up to five (5) minutes.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n If the Internet light does not illuminate after five (5) minutes, please contact our support team<\/a> for further troubleshooting.<\/strong><\/p>\n
