What is happening?<\/h2>\n

From 12.01am 28 October 2024,<\/strong> our carrier (Telstra Wholesale) began blocking impacted devices to ensure we’re complying with the updated Determination set by the Australian Communications and Media Authority (ACMA). If you are impacted, it is important to upgrade to a new handset to ensure service continuity.<\/p>\n

What devices are affected?<\/h2>\n

From 28 October 2024, mobile phones<\/strong>\u00a0that use the 3G network and cannot make 4G\/VoLTE emergency calls will be blocked <\/strong>from accessing the service,\u00a0<\/strong>in accordance with the ECS (Emergency Call Service) Determination<\/a> as set by ACMA.<\/p>\n

Non calling devices\u00a0<\/strong>such as Internet of Things (IOT), Machine-to-Machine (M2M) devices<\/em> including smart meters & sensor plus mobile broadband devices, tablets, laptops, smartwatches <\/em>etc. that operate on 3G only will no longer be able to access the network.\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n

Why are we doing this?<\/h2>\n

This change is being made because there are some mobile phones still in use that require access to a 3G network to call Triple Zero. The Government wishes to encourage people who may not be aware they have this type of phone to upgrade so all mobile customers continue to have ongoing access to Triple Zero.<\/p>\n

If my device is affected, what do I need to do?<\/h2>\n

If you have received an SMS or email from us \u2013 you must take action to stay connected<\/strong>. But we also want to make sure everyone is prepared and has an easy way to check the compatibility of their device.<\/p>\n

If you are unsure if your device will be impacted, simply SMS ‘3G<\/strong>‘\u00a0to\u00a03498.\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n

Upgrading your device<\/h2>\n

It is essential for devices affected by the 3G network closure to be upgraded to a 4G\/VoLTE compatible device. If your device doesn’t support Voice over LTE (VoLTE) emergency calling, you will not be able to access the service, including being able to make emergency calls to 000 on the Telstra Wholesale Mobile Network after the 3G network closes.<\/p>\n

For tips on buying and upgrading your mobile device, you can visit the Australian Mobile Telecommunications Association (AMTA)\u00a0website.<\/a>\n

Alternatively, you can purchase a compatible Australian-delivered handset from any of the following third-party retailers:<\/p>\n

\n– JB-Hi Fi
\n– Harvey Norman
\n– The Good Guys
\n– Directly from the manufacturer (Samsung, Apple, Oppo etc.)<\/p>\n
