{"id":13612,"date":"2021-12-03T10:43:31","date_gmt":"2021-12-02T23:43:31","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.letsbemates.com.au\/mate\/?post_type=faq&#038;p=13612"},"modified":"2025-07-29T13:31:15","modified_gmt":"2025-07-29T03:31:15","slug":"vdsl-modem-compatibility","status":"publish","type":"faq","link":"https:\/\/www.letsbemates.com.au\/mate\/faq\/vdsl-modem-compatibility\/","title":{"rendered":"Will all VDSL modems work with nbn FTTN\/B?"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Not all VDSL modems are guaranteed to work with <a href=\"https:\/\/www.letsbemates.com.au\/mate\/faq\/what-is-nbn-fibre-to-the-node-fttn\/\">nbn Fibre to the Node (FTTN)<\/a> or <a href=\"https:\/\/www.letsbemates.com.au\/mate\/faq\/what-is-nbn-fibre-to-the-building-fttb\/\">Fibre to the Building (FTTB)<\/a> \u2014 especially after changes introduced in 2022.<\/p>\n<p>From March 2022, nbn introduced two new technologies on FTTN and FTTB lines:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Save Our Showtime (SOS)<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>Robust Overhead Channel (ROC)<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>These improve connection stability by helping prevent dropouts due to line noise.<\/p>\n<div style=\"margin-top: 1em; margin-bottom: 1.5em; padding: 1em; background-color: #d7f6e6; border-left: 5px solid #00b26b;\" role=\"note\" aria-label=\"Helpful tip\"><strong>\ud83d\udca1 Tip:<\/strong> If your modem doesn\u2019t support SOS and ROC, it must at least support <strong>Seamless Rate Adaptation (SRA)<\/strong> to keep your service running reliably.<\/div>\n<p>If your VDSL modem doesn\u2019t support these functions, it may stop working on FTTN\/B services. Many modems using <strong>Intel or Lantiq chipsets<\/strong> are affected, including:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Audiocodes MP-264<\/li>\n<li>AVM FRITZ!Box 7590<\/li>\n<li>DrayTek Vigor130, 2760 series, 2860 series<\/li>\n<li>NETGEAR DM200, D7000v2, D7800, D8500<\/li>\n<li>TP-Link Archer VR200v V2, TD-W9980<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>These modems may need a <strong>firmware update<\/strong> from the manufacturer to stay compatible.
